Zisola Extra Virgin Olive Oil 2009 Overview
A well-regarded selection from the Mazzei estate near Noto, Sicily. The Mazzei family is well known for Tuscan wines and they have chosen to restore this neglected estate near Noto, famed for magnicent Baroque architecture. They recognized the potential of the estate well located for wine and olive oil production with rocky soil, intense summer sun and Mediterranean breezes. The small estate with 50 hectares of land has been replaced with grape vines and olive trees nestled among ancient olive, citrus, and almond trees. At Zisola, the olive trees are trimmed in a vase shape to allow sunlight to reach the olive fruit within and to assure even ripening. Produced from Moresca, Ogliarola Messinese, and Nocellara Etnea olives. Golden-green in color, with aromas of almond, apple and green grass with layers of fruity flavor. Rich flavor, herbaceous notes, and mild peppery finish.
